   5 Lustre servers manage permanent storage on behalf of the clients. That
   6 storage is divided into logical resources for management data,
   7 metadata (namespace and index data), and object storage. Each such
   8 storage resource is called a target. Management data is stored on a
   9 single management server (MGS) with a single target, also called the
  10 MGS. Namespace and index data are maintained on one or more metadata
  11 servers (MDSs), and each MDS may have several targets (MDTs). Object
  12 storage is maintained on object servers (OSSs), and each OSS can have
  13 several targets (OSTs), as well. Each target is based on an Object
  14 Storage Device (OSD) which can be either an ldikfs-based file system
  15 or a zfs-based file system.
