get mds/ building in 2.5
- fix the still-born KDEVT_VAL
- 2.5 uses a extra-awesome special list/head datatype for hashes.  we introduce
  some compatibility macros so we can drive both it and 2.4's list_head. this
  isn't quite done..
- cook some 2.5 make fu to link into ../lib
